Carlos Alcaraz has been describing his dream doubles partner in the run-up to his return to Buenos Aires.

The 20-year-old is seeking to defend his crown against the likes of Cam Norrie and Nicolas Jarry, and is widely expected to cruise to the title.

But, despite his campaign starting later today, the pre-tournament chat was focused on who he wants to play with later in the year.

But who did Alcaraz name as his dream doubles partner? We take a closer look…

Who is Carlos Alcaraz’s dream doubles partner?

Having steered relatively clear of the doubles scene throughout his young career thus far, the Spaniard is showcasing a newfound interest in that part of the game, should he find the right partner.

After all, given how wildly successful he has already been in singles, it would be unwise to potentially jeopardise that by adding additional matches to his already busy schedule unless it was for somebody special.

But, if it was to play with one of the sport’s all-time greats, that would be a proposition he could not turn down.

Especially his compatriot Rafael Nadal, who he likely spent his youth looking up to.

Speaking ahead of the Buenos Aires Open, Alcaraz noted: ‘I would be very excited to be able to play with Rafa, but there are still several months left and both he and I will see if we are well, which is something you never know,” Alcaraz explained.

‘Hopefully we can, let’s touch wood that we are well and healthy, because it would be a dream to be able to share a doubles with him at the Olympic Games.’

Nadal and Alcaraz: Two generations of Spanish superstars

Although Nadal is currently struggling to recapture his fitness in order to tackle the singles game, this would certainly be a dream combination not just for the young Spaniard but for fans everywhere.

After all, it would be quite a poetic combination as the 37-year-old likely enjoys what is widely expected to be his final year on tour.

Having claimed two Grand Slam titles already, Alcaraz will be hoping that his career can follow a similar path to his and cement his legacy alongside this Big Three.

By taking the court with one of those legendary figures, he is certain to absorb a wealth of knowledge that should aid him in that endeavour.

A link-up at the 2024 Olympics would mark the passing of the torch between two elite Spanish superstars, and mark a spectacle that few tennis fans could pass up.
