Rafael Nadal has delivered an update on his fitness and is convinced that he will be ready to play at Indian Wells – one of his favourite tournaments on the calendar.

The multiple Grand Slam winner has been speaking to Relovo.

So, what has Nadal said regarding his fitness and what are his plans for the next few months? Let’s take a closer look…

Rafael Nadal delivers update on fitness issues

Well, it would appear that things are still a bit of a struggle for Nadal as he looks to enjoy another crack at some silverware.

The Spaniard was forced to miss the Australian Open with his latest injury and hasn’t played since the ATP event in Brisbane before the first major of the year.

Nadal is working hard to get back to full fitness and he’s suggested which tournament he’s earmarked for his return.

He told Relovo: “I’ve had some discomfort these last few weeks and I’m a little pushed to my limit. At this point, every issue, every injury, is a setback not only in the physical but also in the mental.

“I am 100% confident in being in Indian Wells, it is a very special tournament for me. I don’t know if it’s going to be the last time I’m going to play it, but there are options that yes, so I would like to be at Indian Wells.

“Doha is very soon after the injury, I see the Doha decision more at the last minute. About Indian Wells, if there’s no issues before then, I’m going to travel there.”

Nadal drops retirement hint and fitness is a real concern

It’s hard to image the 37-year-old playing on beyond 2024 given that he’s desperately struggling to stay fit for any length of time.

Nadal is one of the very best to have ever picked up a racket and he should be allowed to go out on his own terms.

With the clay court season just around the corner, this will be the period of the year when Nadal wants to show his very best form.

The clay-court specialist has won 14 French Open titles during his career and it would be fairytale stuff if he could get his hands on one more.

It’s good to hear that Nadal has plans to make a comeback now and all eyes will now be on Indian Wells next month for the player’s supporters.
