Following the Cincinnati Open, the tennis world will soon turn its attention to New York for the final Grand Slam of the year.
Flushing Meadows is known for its electric atmosphere and the fans will be ready to turn up and support the pulsating tennis action.
But before the competition is due to commence, a special event combining champions of the past and present will take place and it is set to be a great occasion.
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic to take part in special pre-US Open event
The US Open enjoys hosting events before the tournament to create further buzz among fans and around the city.
They tend to host kids days and fan events, in addition to exhibition matches, and another has been organised for 2024.
This is according to an announcement by US Open tournament director Stacey Allaster, who says Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will play in an exhibition doubles event with John McEnroe and Andre Agassi.
“August 21, the US Open Stars of the Open Presented by Chase. This will feature the champions of the past and the champions of today,” she said via ASAP Sports.
“This is the not-to-be-missed event. Let me give you some insight why. We’ll have men’s doubles. Carlos will play with Agassi. Novak is going to play with Johnny Mack.
“I can tell you that both Carlos and Novak immediately said yes when I went to them and said, Would you like to play in this event? They are excited to have the opportunity to share Arthur Ashe Stadium with Agassi and Johnny Mack.”
What are Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz’s US Open records?
Djokovic and Alcaraz will enter the 2024 US Open as the two most recent champions of the Grand Slam.
Alcaraz won the first Grand Slam of his career by defeating Casper Ruud in four sets to win the 2022 US Open.
Since then, Alcaraz has won the latest edition of the French Open and claimed successive Wimbledon titles in 2023 and 2024.
Alcaraz defeated Djokovic to win those titles at Wimbledon, but now the Serbian is trying to win a record-equalling fifth US Open title.
The World number two enters this year’s US Open as the defending champion and he is searching for a 25th Grand Slam title.
