Tracy Austin describes something ‘insane’ she noticed Novak Djokovic this season.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion was aiming to win his eighth Wimbledon title, but Carlos Alcaraz had other ideas.
Alcaraz defeated Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) to triumph at the All-England Club for the second year in a row.
This means the Serbian is over halfway through the 2024 season and has yet to win a single title or secure a top 10 win.
What does Tracy Austin think is ‘insane’ about Novak Djokovic’s 2024 season?
After winning three of the four Grand Slams in 2023, Djokovic has found things more challenging in 2024. Djokovic has battled a knee injury in addition to a loss of form this year and not yet defeating a top 10 player.
As Djokovic continues to play in the twilight phase of his career, Austin found it hard to fathom that Djokovic won trophies in 2024 so far due to the lofty standards he has set throughout his career.
“At 37, he is the only one who can know how full his gas tank is and how motivated he is,” Austin told Tennis Channel.
“He hasn’t won a title this year which is insane but I think he has only played seven tournaments, so it’s definitely a lighter schedule because he knows at his age, maybe he wants to spend more time with his kids and doesn’t want to test his body too much.
“I can’t answer that. We don’t know what these guys are feeling. The love of the game and the love of the sport and the way they have been able to take care of their bodies better than other past decades. I am going to say play as long as we want, we love to watch you.”

Where is Novak Djokovic set to play next?
After losing to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, Djokovic wants to play the Olympics and US Open before the end of the year.
Djokovic has expressed his desire to win an Olympic gold medal and he will have the opportunity to realise that dream at the Paris Games.
The tennis legend also plans to head to New York where he will aim to defend the US Open title.
“The Olympic Games and the US Open are the two big goals for the rest of the year for me really,” Djokovic said in his final Wimbledon press conference. “I am hoping that I can be at my best for those two tournaments. That’s all I can say right now.”
