Tommy Paul has been working hard on one specific area as he looks to mount a challenge at the Montreal Open.

Frances Tiafoe reacted to Paul’s Olympic bronze, with the latter clinching the honour in the men’s doubles.

Paul finished third at the event in Paris alongside compatriot Taylor Fritz, who is also now competing at the Montreal Open.

Fritz beat Mariano Navone in round one to set up a meeting with fellow American Sebastian Korda, with Paul overcoming Luciano Darderi.

He beat the Italian 6-4, 7-6(7-2) in Canada, with Paul now drawn to face compatriot Brandon Nakashima in round two.

Tommy Paul explains change he’s made after Montreal Open round one win

Andy Roddick waxed lyrical about Paul amid his strong run in the Olympics singles and men’s doubles, having reached the quarter-finals in the former.

Roddick has been impressed by Paul’s career turnaround, with the latter now explaining a major change he has made in recent times.

“It’s the attitude on the court,” Paul told Tennis Channel after his latest win. “I have been trying to stay positive the whole time out there.

“Me and my opponent today could have made a ton of excuses the whole match, conditions were rough for us.

“But staying positive and keeping that good self talk during the match is super important for me. It’s something I have been working on a ton.”

How has Olympic medallist Tommy Paul done in 2024?

Paul is going from strength to strength, with the American ace currently sitting 12th in the world rankings.

He is on 34 wins and 12 losses for the year so far, with the 27-year-old boasting two titles and now an Olympic bronze medal.

Paul will now be aiming for a strong run at the US Open later this month, with the American among the star names using the Montreal Open as preparation for the major.

Having suffered third round exits at the Australian Open and French Open, a run to the quarter-finals was made at Wimbledon.

Last year’s fourth round finish at the US Open is his best at the event, but there is every chance he can make the latter stages this time around.
