Carlos Alcaraz has relinquished control of the Wimbledon men’s singles crown after losing to Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s final.
Alcaraz won the first set 6-4, but then proceeded to be on the wrong end of a complete and utter masterclass produced by Sinner, who took the match in four.
Sinner claimed a first Wimbledon title and managed to get redemption after his crushing defeat to Alcaraz at the French Open last month.
This wasn’t the level of performance that we’ve become accustomed to from Alcaraz, and it’s pretty clear that the world number one exploited some weaknesses.

Tim Henman spots weakness in Carlos Alcaraz during defeat to Jannik Sinner
Henman was covering the final for BBC Sport and he was full of praise for Sinner after his superb win in which he stifled the threat of Alcaraz.
The four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist believes that the Italian helped expose a big weakness that Alcaraz must now work on alongside his team.
He said on BBC One: “I think we can analyse it as much as we like and say was his shot selection that good? Did he go to the drop shot too often? Did he lose focus early on in sets?
“But to me, it’s so much more to do with Jannik Sinner. I think the credit really goes to Jannik Sinner.”
Todd Woodbridge was alongside him on commentary and he echoed those thoughts, saying: ” I totally agree, but if you rewind to a moment in the match. It’s the first service game in the second set.
“He had played three or four games in a row to really elevate to win that first set and then when he sat down, he absolutely lost momentum.”
Tim Henman makes claim about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner rivalry
It’s quite remarkable that these two young players are now starting to dominate the world of professional tennis and scary in equal measure.
The two players have shared the last seven Grand Slam titles between them and it’s hard to see where the next new major winner comes from.
Henman said of the rivalry: “Fingers crossed they are going to stay healthy.
“They are going to have the motivation because they are still so young. We have been blessed in this sport to have so many great rivals over the years and this is developing.
“This is the 13th time they have played and they are still in their 20s so we very much hope we see them in more major finals.”
Thankfully, tennis fans don’t have much longer to discover how the rivalry will progress, with the US Open just around the corner, starting next month.
