Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his struggles this season into Wimbledon, where he went tumbling out in round one.

Tsitsipas was the 24th seed at Wimbledon, but his venture ended via a walkover when he was losing by two sets to Valentin Royer.

The Greek player lost in the first round of the Australian Open and the second round of the French Open earlier this season, with Tsitsipas hiring Goran Ivanisevic as his coach following his Paris exit.

He then lost his second match at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, continuing his nightmare 2025 season on the ATP Tour.

And things have since gone from bad to worse, with Ivanisevic shocked by how unprepared Tsitsipas has been.

What could happen with Stefanos Tsitsipas after Goran Ivanisevic criticism

“I’ve never seen such an underprepared player in my life,” was one of many of the coach’s surprising comments on the 26-year-old, with former professional Sam Querrey now sharing his take on the stinging public criticism from Ivanisevic.

He said on the Nothing Major Show: “Goran is getting fired or maybe this is the spark and gets him back in the top 10 because Tsitsipas has been playing like garbage for his standards for the last year. Like, wow, what a quote!”

What Goran Ivanisevic experienced working with Novak Djokovic

Ivanisevic has indeed reached phenomenal heights in tennis, having won Wimbledon as a player, along with reaching second in the world rankings.

He then turned his focus to coaching, and has enjoyed a stellar career working alongside the likes of fellow legend Novak Djokovic.

And that partnership was referenced by another former player, Steve Johnson, when sharing his take on Tsitsipas’ current predicament.

He continued from Querrey: “Sometimes it just needs to be said. There are only so many things you can say in private, if your point does not get across.

“Goran has worked with Novak for years so he has seen what a professional tennis player should be doing at the highest level.

“Every single day Novak is one of the most professional players out there. He is just dialled in. Every day he is doing something good for himself, for his game, for his future on the tennis court. He is 38 and still near the top of tennis, so it’s really impressive and this quote can go one of two ways.

“It could give the kick in the pants that Tsitsipas needs and maybe we will see a big summer out of him and a big second part of the year. Or he could fire Goran and go back to whatever he has been doing and stay top 30, or something.”

Unlike Tsitsipas, Djokovic is still going strong at Wimbledon, where he has just secured his 100th win at the tournament.

His turnaround in recent times really should inspire his fellow ATP Tour players, including Tsitsipas, who has largely looked out of sorts this season.

He did, however, manage to emerge victorious in Dubai, representing a 12th career title for the two-time Grand Slam finalist.

But having once reached number three in the world rankings, he now occupies 26th spot, and holds a 19-13 win-loss record in 2025.
