Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Wimbledon campaign came to an abrupt end in the first round of Wimbledon.

Tsitsipas withdrew from his clash with Valentin Royer at the All England Club after going two sets down while dealing with a back injury.

After the match, the Greek star was asked about his relationship with his new coach, Goran Ivanisevic, which he said was ‘great’ despite the disappointing result.

However, since the conclusion of Tsitsipas‘ grass season, Ivanisevic has given a damning verdict on the current ATP number 26.

Goran Ivanisevic gives damning verdict on Stefanos Tsitsipas

As per Sport Klub, Ivanisevic said of Tsitsipas: “It’s a really simple situation. It’s simple and it’s not simple. I’ve talked to him many times.

“If he solves some things outside of tennis then he has a chance of being back where he belongs because he’s too good a player to be out of the top 10.

“If not, then he has no chance. My duty is to fix some technical things on the court, that’s the easiest thing. This other stuff he has to fix on his own. If he does it, I sincerely hope he does, whether I am here or not.”

When asked: “Does he want to?”, he replied: “That’s a good question. He does want it, but he isn’t doing anything about it.

“It’s all ‘I want it, I want it’ but he isn’t doing anything about it. He has to resolve his back issue. I was shocked. I’ve never seen such an underprepared player in my life.

“Me with this bad knee, I was three times readier. I don’t know what he was doing this year, but it was bad.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ struggles in Grand Slam events this year

The former world number three has tumbled down the rankings this year, and his performances at majors have a lot to do with it.

He crashed out in the first round of the Australian Open earlier this season to Alex Michelsen in four sets.

Then, after winning his first match in Paris, Tsitsipas went out in the second round of the French Open, following his defeat to Matteo Gigante.

After Roland Garros, he appointed Ivanisevic, but his first Grand Slam clash with Novak Djokovic‘s former coach in his corner ended once again in disappointment.
