There have already been some breakout stars after the first month of the 2025 season.
Carlos Alcaraz, who is a four-time Grand Slam champion, is still only 21-years-old and was bidding for history at the Australian Open.
The Spaniard was looking to become the youngest man in history to achieve the Career Grand Slam, but that was put on hold after Alcaraz was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
A young star did go onto win the title, as 23-year-old Jannik Sinner defended the Australian Open to continue his dominance on hard courts.
Nick Kyrgios called Sinner and Alcaraz ‘freaks of nature’ in a recent interview, and also mentioned another young star in Dane Holger Rune.
There is actually another player that was born this century that follows Alcaraz and Sinner and is ahead of Rune in terms of titles.
However, it is two teenagers that Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has picked out to impress in 2025.

Rick Macci tips two young players for success in 2025
Macci has coached some of the greatest players in history including both of the Williams sisters, Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova.

In a series of recent social media posts, Macci predicted big things for Alcaraz, but also wanted to bring some attention to the generation after.
When posting on social media, Macci backed teenagers Joao Fonseca and Mirra Andreeva to flourish in 2025.
Andreeva is currently ranked inside the top 20, and Macci has suggested that she could even break into the top five this year.
While Fonseca broke into the top 100 for the first time after making his senior Grand Slam debut in impressive fashion.
Macci has backed the Brazilian to make big improvements on his current ranking by the end of the year in a big prediction on X (formerly known a Twitter).
“The two players that will send SEISMIC SHOCK WAVES thru the WTA and ATP in 2025 are Andreeva and Fonseca,” said the 70-year-old. “Andreeva could dart into the top five and rattle the cage at a few Slams and the Fonseca will take many scalps of the top 30 players.”
What did Joao Fonseca and Mirra Andreeva do at the Australian Open?
Fonseca made his senior Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open after coming through qualifying, continuing on from his impressive victory at the ATP Next Gen Finals last year.
In the first round, the 18-year-old would face top 10 player Andrey Rublev, and beat him in straight sets to secure his first Grand Slam win.
This performance caused a huge reaction, with Fonseca receiving praise from Djokovic amongst many others.
Fonseca’s improved ranking should mean that he will directly qualify for Roland Garros this year, as he looks to be a nightmare draw for opponents.
Despite being just 17-years-old, Andreeva has already competed in eight senior Grand Slam main draws.
Andreeva made her debut at Roland Garros as a 16-year-old in 2023, reaching the third round before going one round better at Wimbledon.
The Russian teenage sensation took this to a whole new level a year later, reaching the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time at Roland Garros.
Andreeva lost to Aryna Sabalenka at the Australian Open last month, but once again impressed with victories over Marie Bouzkova, Moyuka Uchijima and Magdalena Frech.
So much so that two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur has backed Andreeva to win a major in the near future.
| Grand Slam | Number of Appearances | Andreeva’s Best Result | Who beat Andreeva? |
| Australian Open | 2 | Fourth Round (2024 & 2025) | Barbora Krejcikova (2024) & Aryna Sabalenka (2025) |
| Roland Garros | 2 | Semi-final (2024) | Jasmine Paolini |
| Wimbledon | 2 | Fourth Round (2023) | Madison Keys |
| US Open | 2 | Second Round (2023 & 2024) | Coco Gauff (2023) & Ashlyn Krueger (2024) |
According to Macci’s and many other predictions, Andreeva and Fonseca are likely to be big threats throughout the 2025 season and when Roland Garros gets underway on Sunday May 25.
