Jannik Sinner has proven exactly why he is world number one, and the Italian doesn’t look like losing that ranking anytime soon.

ATP number one Sinner has just successfully defended his title in Melbourne, beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the final.
Zverev congratulated Sinner on his win, which represents a third Grand Slam title overall for the 23-year-old.
Along with the 2024 and 2025 Australian Open titles, he emerged victorious at the 2024 US Open, showing just how formidable he is on hard courts.

Overall, however, he now boasts a 47-3 win-loss record since taking the number one spot, which he managed on 10 June 2024.
It represents a winning percentage of 94%, which according to ATP Tour stats is better than all 28 previous number ones since the rankings were established in 1973.
Bjorn Borg finds himself in second place with a figure of 91.9%, closely ahead of Jimmy Connors in third with 90.1%.
Remarkably, Sinner has won titles at six of his nine tournaments, with seven of his eight wins throughout 2024 coming on hard courts.

Sinner has, of course, not been around as long as his previous number ones, but he is certainly going about his reign the right way.
It may, therefore, be too soon to discuss his position among the all-time greats, but Sinner is outshining the active players who once reached the summit of the ATP Tour.
His new rival Carlos Alcaraz winning percentage as number one stands at 78.6%, with Daniil Medvedev having a figure of 72.7%.
Novak Djokovic has spent 1,000 weeks in the top 100, but his winning percentage as the world’s best is still below the Italian at 86.1%.
Completing the Big Three, Roger Federer’s success at the summit was 88.5%, with Rafael Nadal having a total of 85.9%.
