Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer ended with an intriguing head-to-head record to say the least, with the Australian remembering one of their battles more than any of his other career matches so far.

Kyrgios is worried about his Miami Open appearance, having retired hurt during his opener at Indian Wells last week.

Australian ace Kyrgios hurt his wrist training for Indian Wells, having undergone wrist surgery back in late 2023.

Kyrgios was losing 7-6(9-7), 3-0 to Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round in California, before unfortunately calling time on the match due to the issue.

The Dutchman went on to beat Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells, but Kyrgios has been left wondering about his short-term and indeed long-term futures.

Sharing footage of their round of 32 clash at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid in 2015, Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram story: “Favourite match of all time.”

In an absolute thriller on the outdoor clay in Spain, Kyrgios managed to clinch a famous 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 7-6(12) victory.

What was the head-to-head record between Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer?

Kyrgios unsurprisingly looks back on that achievement fondly, but that is where his success over the Swiss legend would end.

It was indeed a stunning display, where the determined victor fired down 22 aces compared to the 16 of his opponent.

The Australian withdrew from their next scheduled match at Indian Wells in 2017, with Federer then winning their two other matches that year at Miami and the Laver Cup.

Federer continued his dominance in their head-to-head in the years that followed, finishing his career with a 6-1 win-loss record over Kyrgios.
