After three months on the sidelines, Jannik Sinner is set to return to tennis at this week’s Italian Open.
In January, Sinner beat Alexander Zverev to clinch his third Major title at the Australian Open, extending his remarkable winning run to 21 matches.
Shortly after, Sinner received a three-month suspension from tennis, which saw him miss the first four Masters 1000 events of 2025.
With his suspension lifted, Sinner is set to return at the Italian Open in Rome, where he’ll look to prolong his unbeaten run.
21 matches without a loss is very impressive, but do any of Sinner’s ATP Tour rivals have longer winning streaks of their own?
The longest winning streaks of every member of the ATP top ten
Sinner’s 21-match winning run saw him pick up four titles, as the Italian dominated tennis during the latter stages of 2024, heading into the new year.
- October 2024 – Jannik Sinner won the Shanghai Masters (6 wins)
- November 2024 – Jannik Sinner won the ATP Finals (5 wins)
- November 2024 – Italy/Jannik Sinner won the Davis Cup (3 wins)
- January 2025 – Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open (7 wins)
He’s not the only player to have strung several wins together, however, as many of his top-ten rivals have won 10+ matches in a row.
Alexander Zverev – 16 matches
The world number two enjoyed his longest winning run during the Summer of 2021, where he picked up two of the biggest titles of his career.

- August 2021 – Alexander Zverev won the Cincinnati Open (5 wins)
- September 2021 – Alexander Zverev lost in the US Open SF (5 wins)
Backing up his Olympic Gold medal with a title in Cincinnati and a run to the last four in New York, Alexander Zverev proved just how dangerous he could be on hard courts.
Carlos Alcaraz – 14 matches
The Spaniard broke through on grass two years ago, scoring 12 straight wins on the surface, lifting the title at Queens and Wimbledon.

- July 2023 – Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon (7 wins)
- August 2023 – Carlos Alcaraz lost in the Canadian Open QF (2 wins)
Carlos Alcaraz’s run eventually ended at 14, with his defeat in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open.
Taylor Fritz – 8 matches
Another to have impressed on grass, Taylor Fritz won eight matches across two tournaments last year, as he looked a threat to win the Wimbledon title.

- July 2024 – Taylor Fritz lost in the Wimbledon QF (4 wins)
Fritz’s defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in a Wimbledon thriller prevented him from securing win number nine, although you wouldn’t want to bet against him going on a similar run this Summer.
Jack Draper – 7 matches
Winning the biggest title of his career in Vienna last year, Jack Draper added two further wins in Paris to extend his winning streak to seven.
- October 2024 – Jack Draper won the Vienna Open (5 wins)
- October 2024 – Jack Draper lost in the Paris Masters 3R (2 wins)
He may have been expected to better that off the back of his Indian Wells win in March, before Jakub Mensik beat Draper in his Miami Opener.
Novak Djokovic – 43 matches
The 24-time Major champion unsurprisingly has one of the greatest winning streaks of them all, winning 43 consecutive matches across six months.

- January 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open (7 wins)
- February 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Dubai Tennis Championships (5 wins)
- March 2011 – Novak Djokovic won Indian Wells (6 wins)
- March 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Miami Open (6 wins)
- April 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Serbian Open (3 wins)
- May 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Madrid Open (5 wins)
- May 2011 – Novak Djokovic won the Italian Open (5 wins)
- June 2011 – Novak Djokovic lost in the French Open SF (4 wins)
Novak Djokovic looked unbeatable, picking up eight titles in succession, before failing in his bid to pick up win number 44, when Roger Federer beat him in the 2011 French Open semi-finals.
Casper Ruud – 13 matches
The clay-court specialist rattled off three titles in succession in 2021, extending his winning run to 11 matches.

- July 2021 – Casper Ruud won the Swiss Open (4 wins)
- July 2021 – Casper Ruud won the Austrian Open (4 wins)
- August 2021 – Casper Ruud lost in the Canadian Open QF (2 wins)
Casper Ruud added a further two wins to his tally with a run to the last eight in Toronto.
Alex de Minaur – 7 matches
Australia’s Alex De Minaur won the Mexican Open in 2024, defending the title he won one year earlier.
- March 2024 – Alex de Minaur won the Mexican Open (5 wins)
- March 2024 – Alex de Minaur lost in the Indian Wells 4R (2 wins)
Unlike in 2023, De Minaur was able to carry some of that form forward to Indian Wells, as he picked up two more wins in California.
Lorenzo Musetti – 6 matches
Having only recently broken into the world’s top ten, Lorenzo Musetti has yet to embark on a lengthy ATP winning streak.
- July 2022 – Lorenzo Musetti won the Hamburg Open (5 wins)
- July 2022 – Lorenzo Musetti lost in the Croatia Open 2R (1 win)
His six matches won in a row in July 2022 is his best to date, although he’ll certainly be looking to improve upon that in 2025.
Holger Rune – 9 matches
World number ten Holger Rune was playing some of his best tennis during the latter stages of the 2022 season.
- October 2022 – Holger Rune won the Stockholm Open (5 wins)
- October 2022 – Holger Rune lost in the Basel Open F (4 wins)
After winning the Stockholm Open, Rune looked set to pick up the title in Basel and extend his winning run to double digits, but came up short against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Only time will tell if anyone can top their current best winning streaks in 2025, but it’ll certainly be something to look out for.
Sinner will look to score win number 22 when he takes on either Mariano Navone or Federico Cina on Friday, May 9.
