Jakub Mensik has joined the big-killer club at the Miami Open, having just knocked out Indian Wells champion Jack Draper.

Draper was eyeing the Sunshine Double after triumphing in the desert earlier this month, but has just lost his first match since lifting the Indian Wells trophy.

Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey has predicted Draper to win more Masters 1000 titles, but he has now missed out on that chance at the Miami Open.

British number one Draper met Czech ace Mensik in the second round of the tournament, with the latter winning 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-3).

Unlike the former, Mensik started his tournament in the first round, where he overcame Roberto Bautista Agut.

Both Draper and Mensik were in the dark about one another heading into the match, which represented their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

And while the former will not want to be making any excuses, his lengthy run at Indian Wells undoubtedly played a part in his defeat.

But the latter deserves huge praise for his efforts, with Mensik battling to a memorable victory after almost two hours.

The 19-year-old, who is 54th in the ATP rankings, fired down a huge 21 aces and made no double faults against the Miami Open sixth seed.
