Jannik Sinner recorded a phenomenal season in 2025 and looks set to dominate the ATP tour alongside Carlos Alcaraz in 2026.

Despite missing three months of the season through suspension, Sinner ended the year as the world number two, with a points tally of 11,500.

The Italian picked up six tour-level titles, including a second Australian Open crown and a maiden Wimbledon championship.

To end the season, Sinner won the ATP Finals, defeating his rival Alcaraz in the title bout; his second victory over the Spaniard in 2025.

He has made history on multiple occasions already in his young career, and at the start of his next campaign, he will have the chance to match an all-time record currently held by Novak Djokovic.

Jannik Sinner has a chance to make history at the Australian Open

The first Grand Slam of the year is the one Sinner has had the most joy at so far, having won back-to-back titles in Melbourne.

He claimed his first major there in 2024, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, and defended the title in 2025, dropping just two sets throughout the tournament.

Sinner will now have the chance to three-peat at the Australian Open in 2026, a feat that only Djokovic has managed in the Open Era.

How many Grand Slam titles will Jannik Sinner win in 2026?

The Serb won three consecutive titles Down Under from 2011 to 2013, and again from 2019 to 2021.

A number of players have come close to three-peating at the tournament, including Roger Federer, Andre Agassi and Jim Courier, but only Djokovic has managed to get over the line.

Prior to the beginning of the Open Era, which started in 1968, both Jack Crawford and Roy Emerson had won three in a row at the Australian Open.

Emerson held the trophy aloft five consecutive times at his home Grand Slam, winning the tournament each year from 1963 to 1967.

History is also on the line for Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open

Sinner is not the only star who could make history at the Australian Open, as Alcaraz is one title away from completing the Career Grand Slam.

Alcaraz has won two French Opens, two Wimbledon titles, and two US Opens, but has never managed to get his hands on the Australian Open trophy.

Carlos Alcaraz would be the greatest youngster ever if he won the 2026 Australian Open – change my mind…

“Having that record of being the youngest player to complete the Calendar Grand Slam, it is something that sticks in my mind.”

His best result at the competition has been a quarterfinal finish, which he achieved in both 2024 and 2025.

Should he go all the way this year, Alcaraz will become just the sixth man in history to complete the Career Grand Slam, joining Djokovic, Federer, Rafael Nadal, Agassi, and Rod Laver.

Records are on the line for Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic, who will continue his pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam title in 2026.
