Eight of the best young players in men’s tennis are about to compete for the Next Gen ATP Finals title in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Last year, Joao Fonseca won the Next Gen title, defeating America’s Learner Tien in the final.

Who is your favorite ATP player right now?

The Brazilian joined the exclusive club of former champions at the event, which was first played in 2017.

Hyeon Chung (2017), Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018), Jannik Sinner (2019), Carlos Alcaraz (2021), Brandon Nakashima (2022), and Hamad Medjedovic (2023) have all lifted the trophy over recent years.

But who will come out on top in 2025 and add their name to the list?

As the only contestant ranked inside the world’s top 100, Tien is the clear favorite to win the title.

After losing last year’s final to Fonseca, Tien made a successful step up to the ATP Tour.

At the Australian Open in January, Tien stunned Daniil Medvedev in the second round and made it to the last 16, where he eventually fell to Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego.

He continued to impress before winning his maiden ATP title at the Moselle Open, beating Cameron Norrie in a thrilling final.

However, while Tien is the favorite, that doesn’t mean he’ll have it easy in the Middle East…

Belgium’s Alexander Blockx and Croatia’s Dino Prizmic have been highly rated for some time now, as has Spain’s Martin Landaluce.

Many fans will already have seen what Nishesh Basavareddy is capable of, after he won a set against the legendary Novak Djokovic at this year’s Australian Open.

Who is the greatest male tennis player of all time?

Nicolai Budkov Kjaer is another to watch out for, as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Casper Ruud by representing Norway on the ATP Tour.

Seeded seventh, Rafael Jodar shouldn’t be ignored, especially considering the form he’s been in recently.

The Spaniard won two Challenger titles at the end of the year, and regardless of what happens in Jeddah, could be set for a top-100 debut in 2026.

Finally, Germany’s Justin Engel could do some damage, having already picked up ATP Tour wins in 2025.

Competing at his home events in Stuttgart and Hamburg, Engel beat Jan-Lennard Struff, James Duckworth, and Alex Michelsen.

Then, representing Germany at the Davis Cup, he took down Rei Sakamoto to help send his team to the finals.

It’s tough to predict who will emerge victorious in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but you won’t want to miss any of the action when the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals begin on Wednesday, December 17.

Who pulled out of the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals?

Tien is the number-one seed and favorite for this year’s title, but he wasn’t supposed to be…

Defending champion Fonseca and Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik were also supposed to make the trip to Saudi Arabia.

However, due to ‘injury’, Fonseca withdrew from the Next Gen ATP Finals earlier this month, before Mensik did the same shortly after.

It was already a surprise that both players were even considering playing the tournament, given their ranking.

If they continue to rise through the ranks in 2026, it’s hard to imagine them returning to the Next Gen Finals again.

Both players are scheduled to return to action ahead of the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
