Roger Federer was never able to match his two biggest rivals by winning this ATP award.

The end of the tennis season means that players are awarded for their efforts throughout the year, and there has been a big reaction to Learner Tien not being shortlisted for an award after his impressive breakthrough.

Tien is not the only player who has been snubbed from a category, with Naomi Osaka also missing out on an award nomination.

Federer has been announced as next year’s inductee into the Tennis Hall of Fame, but there is one ATP award which he has never been able to get his hands on.

Roger Federer never won the ATP award for Most Improved Player

Federer has won many titles, awards and other accolades throughout his career, including being named as the ATP Player of the Year five times in his career.

This is an award that both Novak Djokovic (8) and Rafael Nadal (5) have also won, but Federer has not matched his former rivals in every category.

After Nadal won his first French Open title in 2005, he was named the Most Improved Player on the ATP Tour that year.

The following year, the category was won by Djokovic, who also received the gong again in 2007 after continuing to rise up the ranks.

While Federer is often compared to Djokovic and Nadal, he has never received the Most Improved Player award which was first handed out in 1973.

Although there is an award which Federer has not won that his rivals have, the same has always happened to Djokovic.

Federer was named Fan Favourite 19 years in a row before retiring from tennis, with Nadal winning the honour for the first time in 2022.

Djokovic has never received this award, but he still could this year as the last remaining big three player who is still competing.

Last year saw Jannik Sinner named Fan Favourite for a second year in a row, as he looks to create a similar run to Federer.

The winner of this year’s Fan Favourite award will be named during Awards Week, which commences from December 8.
