Novak Djokovic is seeking a record sixth Indian Wells title this month, which he will hope to win alongside Andy Murray.

Murray and Djokovic once played arguably the toughest ATP event ever, but have since gone from rivals to teammates.

Djokovic was flattered by talk of an Indian Wells stadium in his honour back in 2016, with the Serbian joint-top of the men’s titles charts with Roger Federer.

Federer and Djokovic have each won at Indian Wells five times, with the latter now looking to move clear of the former given that the Swiss legend has retired.

Both players have won the tournament in three consecutive years, with Carlos Alcaraz now able to follow suit.

Novak Djokovic set to emulate Andy Murray with 16th Indian Wells appearance

Sixth seed Djokovic has been given a bye into round two of the latest edition of Indian Wells, where he faces either Nick Kyrgios or a qualifier.

And in that match he is set to equal a record held by his coach Murray, among others, with Djokovic set to make his 16th Indian Wells main draw appearance this week, as per OptaAce.

He will also equal Gael Monfils, Sam Querrey and Philipp Kohlschreiber, while Federer, Andre Agassi and Feliciano Lopez lead the way with 18 since the event’s inception in 1976.

Victoria Azarenka set to equal Jelena Jankovic record at Indian Wells

Djokovic will be desperate for Indian Wells success, given that he is chasing a record there and indeed a 100th ATP title.

He has failed in the latter endeavour in his three events of 2025 so far, having initially lost in the Brisbane International quarter-final.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion then fell in the semi-final and round of 32 of the Australian Open and Qatar Open respectively.

An intriguing reunion with Kyrgios is, of course, on the cards at Indian Wells, with the Australian and Serbian having played doubles in Brisbane in January.

History is also in the making on the WTA Tour, with Victoria Azarenka making her 16th Indian Wells main draw appearance, like Djokovic.

As per OptaAce, the former world number one will equal Jelena Jankovic for the most appearances at the tournament since its inauguration in 1989.
