Thanasi Kokkinakis has been forced to withdraw from the Australian Open singles draw.

Kokkinakis underwent shoulder surgery and was unable to play a tennis match in nearly a year before returning at the Brisbane International.

The former ATP title winner then made his return to singles competition in Adelaide, with Kokkinakis beating Sebastian Korda in dramatic fashion.

Despite returning to winning ways, Kokkinakis was forced to withdraw from the Adelaide International and subsequently the Australian Open.

After confirming this decision, Kokkinakis has now revealed if he will still compete in the doubles draw in Melbourne.

Thanasi Kokkinakis releases statement after withdrawing from the Australian Open

It is not just Kokkinakis who has been struggling with injury in recent years, with his doubles partner Kyrgios also ruling himself out of the Australian Open singles draw.

Kyrgios still had plans to compete in doubles in Melbourne, but Kokkinakis’ withdrawal appeared to put this in jeopardy.

However, after releasing a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), Kokkinakis has now confirmed that he still plans to take to the court for doubles at the Australian Open.

Kokkinakis wrote, “Unfortunately after speaking with my team and doctors I have made the decision to pull out of the @AustralianOpen singles.

“After an incredibly tough year this was the event I was looking forward to the most but I’m not ready yet. We will still give doubles a go.”

Following his withdrawal from the singles tournament, Kokkinakis has been replaced in the Australian Open men’s singles draw by lucky loser Dino Prizmic.
