Tennis fans cannot believe that Jasmine Paolini was left off a nomination list for a WTA award.

The Italian has had a special season, in which she has reached a career-high ranking and achieved plenty of success while representing her country of Italy.

The 28-year-old is playing with a newfound sense of confidence and she has firmly established herself as one of the WTA Tour’s best players.

So when Jasmine Paolini‘s name was siding from a nomination list for an end of season award, fans could not believe it.

The nominees for the 2024 WTA Player Awards have been announced. The awards on offer are the WTA Player of the Year, Doubles team of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and the Comeback Player of the Year.

The final award is The Most Improved Player of the Year, and Paolini was left off the five-player nomination list which featured Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro, Marta Kostyuk, Diana Shnaider and Anna Kalinskaya.

Given her rise into the top four, WTA 1000 title win in Dubai and two Grand Slam final appearances, fans were stunned to not see Paolini nominated for that particular award.

X user @vanshv2k said: “Apparently BJK Cup W for your country along with 2 Major Finals, WTA 1000 title, and going from 30 to 4 in the world isn’t enough to even be nominated for most improved on the WTA.

“Haven’t even gotten to all the amazing doubles success she’s had or this tweet would be too long.” @christianscourt) added: “Paolini ROBBED for Most Improved Player.”

@RajBhandari1001 was not happy at all, as they posted: “WHY IS NOT PAOLINI IN MOST IMPROVED PLAYER?? WHAT IS COLLINS DOING THERE??? THIS CAN’T BE SERIOUS.”

While baffled @erosmait86 asked: “Why is Paolini not  in the shortlist for the most improved player of the year?”

Jasmine Paolini ends 2024 season with Billie Jean King Cup success

Paolini capped her special 2024 season by enjoying more success representing Italy.

The World number five followed up her Olympics doubles gold medal by leading Italy to victory in the Billie Jean King Cup finals.

Italy defeated Slovakia 2-0 to ensure they went one better than their runner-up performance in 2023 and claim the title for the first time since 2013.

Lucia Bronzetti put Italy 1-0 up with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Slovakia’s Viktoria Hruncakova, before Paolini wrapped things up with an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory against Rebecca Sramkova.

“Unbelievable, a crazy year,” Paolini said after her win. “To finish like this, a title at Billie Jean King Cup, it’s amazing. I don’t have words to describe it.”
