Tennis fans were left stunned following an update to Novak Djokovic’s schedule.

The 37-year-old is in the middle of a difficult 2024 season in which he has yet to win a tournament.

He came close to winning Wimbledon after he reached the final, but he was convincingly beaten by Carlos Alcaraz who successfully defended the title at SW19.

The Serbian will continue to battle for success this year as he turns his attention to the Olympic Games and the US Open later this summer.

But following the final Grand Slam of the season, Djokovic has added another event to his schedule, which has raised some eyebrows.

Novak Djokovic fans are not happy with his latest schedule update

After Djokovic goes in pursuit of the US Open title, according to media outlet Sport Klub, he plans to represent Serbia in the Davis Cup against Greece.

This is set to take place over the weekend of September 14 and 15, but fans are not happy with the 24-time Grand Slam winner’s decision to play in the event.

On social media platform X, user @HouTrustTheP wrote: “Big mistake once again,” while @SwethaVicky13 added: “Why novak just why?”, along with crying emojis.

The comments continued as @mekemma said: “Why? Why does he commit to a tournament one week after the US Open?”

User @cestlaviemacher reckons: “Is he for real? Making questionable decisions since last year and still repeating them this year.”

When did Novak Djokovic last play in the Davis Cup?

Djokovic made his first appearance in the Davis Cup back in 2004 and helped guide Serbia to glory in 2010.

His last appearance in the competition came in the semi-finals in November 2023, when his country lost 2-1 to Italy.

He faced Jannik Sinner in the singles tie, where the 22-year-old claimed a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 win to score his first victory against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

In the deciding match, Djokovic teamed with Miomir Kecmanović to face Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego in doubles, but they were beaten 6-3, 6-4.

Italy progressed to the final where they defeated Australia to win their first Davis Cup title since 1976.
