Holger Rune will return to action on the ATP Tour at the Hamburg Open next month, after being sidelined since October 2025 with an Achilles injury.
Rune broke the proximal part of his Achilles during a semifinal match at last year’s Stockholm Open and quickly underwent successful surgery.
The Dane has since been updating fans on his recovery on social media, posting clips of his training.

Having been out of action for nearly six months, Rune‘s ranking has dropped to 29th in the world.
His recovery has been incredibly quick, but fans are now worried that the 22-year-old may have rushed the process.

After seeing the news of his return, one fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say: “He’s insane. He shouldn’t even think of playing pro until at least November
One fan added: “Rune is about to compete after 7 months from the torn Achilles he suffered in October. I saw that he was putting a lot of effort into the recovery and rehab, but I wonder if his return to the courts isn’t a bit rushed. Hope everything is good and he will be able to compete

Another user said: “Well, praying for him. Sounds pretty early, it would be a tragedy to get re-injured,” while this fan simply requested: “Please don’t [return].”
Finally, one fan posted: “Hopefully it’s not a hasty return for his own sake. This is a really quick recovery, honestly for that kind of injury.”
Holger Rune says he ‘can’t wait’ for his return to tennis
As per the official Hamburg Open website, Rune said: ‘The hard work starts in Hamburg. I can’t wait to be back on clay at the Bitpanda Hamburg Open and to finally experience the atmosphere on site again after such a long break.”
Tournament director Enric Molina Mur said: “We are very pleased that Holger Rune will make his comeback with us in Hamburg.
“I know how much work he has put into this intensive rehabilitation period, and we feel honoured that he has chosen the Bitpanda Hamburg Open for his return.
“I am confident that he will once again experience the special atmosphere at Rothenbaum, both from the Hamburg crowd and from the many Danish fans who will travel to the city.”
Rune has appeared at the Hamburg Open twice before, with his best result a quarterfinal finish, which he achieved in 2024.
