The Miami Open is approaching the latter stages of the 2025 tournament, but is receiving scrutiny due to its latest decision.

The semi-final lineup in the WTA tournament is complete, headlined by world number one Aryna Sabalenka after she beat Qinwen Zheng.

While Sabalenka has reached the semi-finals in Miami, world number two Iga Swiatek was stunned by world number 140 Alexandra Eala.

Jasmine Paolini will play Sabalenka in the semi-finals, while Eala will compete against world number four Jessica Pegula.

In the ATP tournament, the first half of the quarter-finals were supposed to take place, but Novak Djokovic and Sebastian Korda’s match was cancelled due to a decision that fans are not happy about.

Tennis fans angry at the Miami Open due to scheduling decision

After Alexander Zverev’s fourth round match against Arthur Fils was cancelled on Tuesday, it was moved to the following day.

As a result, there were five matches scheduled onto Stadium Court at the Miami Open, but play would still begin at 1pm local time.

After the fourth match on the schedule between Pegula and Emma Raducanu finished after 11pm in Miami, it was decided that the final match between Djokovic and Korda would be cancelled as per rules that were brought in at the start of last year.

Five matches have also been placed on the subsequent days schedule on Stadium Court, which will again begin at 1pm.

When this decision was announced, fans flooded to social media to criticize the tournament and pointed out the flaws in their latest move.

One fan on X (formerly known as Twitter) said, “Poor tournament direction…”

This was echoed by others, “Would love to know who makes these decisions: draws, schedules, wild cards, points etc. Such a mess.”

“WHAT @MiamiOpen and @JRBlake Omg ?? You’re terrible at managing the schedule! You might end up with the same situation as Wednesday, just WOW.”

“Absolute stupidity in the scheduling. Why they didn’t start today’s matches earlier since they had matches from the night before to play. Stupid.”

Another person added, “The dollars driving everything. Absolutely shocking!!!”

While a different person used a tennis analogy to criticize the decision, “Incredible unforced error for the tournament.”

When will Novak Djokovic play his rescheduled match against Sebastian Korda?

Djokovic has re-found form at the Miami Open this year, having lost three matches in a row prior to the Masters 1000 tournament.

As he bids for a historic seventh Miami Open and 100th ATP title, Djokovic will look to continue his run against Korda.

Despite having their match rescheduled, Djokovic and Korda are third on Stadium Court, following the WTA semi-final between Sabalenka and Paolini.

While many are understandably displeased by the Miami Open’s decision, Korda may be one of the few to be relieved to have more time to prepare.

After reaching his second Miami Open quarter-final, Korda admitted that he was struggling with an injury that he has had for three years.
