Taylor Fritz has faced another setback this season after reaching the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
Fritz was beaten by Jakub Mensik, the eventual champion, after achieving his best ever result at the Miami Open by reaching the semi-finals.
Last year saw the American number one reach his first Grand Slam final at the US Open, with Fritz now seeking improvements to win a major.
However, if he is to do that Fritz will be hoping to overcame an injury that has been plaguing his progress so far this year.

Taylor Fritz withdraws from UTS event due to previous injury
Fritz has won the United Cup this year as part of the USA team, but has been unable to reach an individual final.
Despite having ambitions to win a major title, Fritz suffered disappointment at the Australian Open after being beaten by Gael Monfils.
An abdominal injury has been disrupting Fritz’s progress and forced him to withdraw from the Acapulco Open last month.
It appears that this injury is still causing Fritz issues, with the world number four withdrawing from an upcoming Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) event in Nîmes, France.
In a statement released by the event, Fritz revealed that this abdominal injury was aggravated in his Miami Open semi-final defeat to Mensik.
“I was super-excited to come back to the UTS Tour after I made the final in Los Angeles in 2023,” said Fritz.
“Unfortunately, I aggravated an abdominal injury during my semi-final match in Miami, and I will not be able to recover in time to compete in Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes this week. I was really looking forward to play in this iconic venue and can’t wait to be back on UTS soon!”
Fritz has since been replaced by Tomas Machac, who will join Monfils, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, Ugo Humbert, Ben Shelton and Holger Rune in Nîmes.
Will Taylor Fritz play at the Monte Carlo Masters?
Fritz’s next scheduled tournament is the Monte Carlo Masters, that begins on Sunday April 6.
The American achieved his best result at all of the clay court tournaments last year besides the Monte Carlo Masters.
After losing in the first round to Lorenzo Musetti, it means that Fritz only has 10 points to defend for the upcoming tournament.
However, it is currently unclear as to whether Fritz will be fit in time for the Masters 1000 tournament where he will be the third seed.
| ATP Tournament | Fritz’s Best Result | Points Fritz is defending from 2024 |
| Monte Carlo Masters | Semi-final (2023) | 10 (First Round) |
| Bavarian Open | Final (2024) | 165 (Final) |
| Madrid Open | Semi-final (2024) | 400 (Semi-final) |
| Italian Open | Quarter-final (2024) | 200 (Quarter-final) |
| Roland Garros | Fourth Round (2024) | 200 (Fourth Round) |
Clay is statistically Fritz’s worst surface, having never surpassed the Roland Garros fourth round and he has also never won a title on the dirt.
