They say there is no rest for the wicked and for Taylor Fritz, it’s been a short turnaround between the Olympics and the Montreal Open.

The tournament in Paris proved successful for Fritz – and his playing partner Tommy Paul – as they won the Bronze Medal Match at Roland Garros.

It might not have been gold or silver but not many players can lay claim to a medal at the Olympics regardless of the colour.

Fritz is now in the running for glory at the Montreal Open that is taking place this week and he faces compatriot Seb Korda next up.

It looks like a mouthwatering prospect is in store when the two players meet and Fritz has delivered his verdict on the match.

Why Taylor Fritz thinks Seb Korda has the edge at Montreal Open

Korda was in action last week winning a tournament in Washington after choosing to miss the Olympics.

The player has had a bit of a strange year, failing to make any waves in the three major tournaments and losing in the first round at Wimbledon.

But, it would seem as though he’s keen to end the year with a flourish and he will fancy causing a shock of sorts against Fritz.

The 26-year-old thinks that Korda might have the advantage going into this one – purely because of what he’s been doing in recent weeks.

He told The Tennis Channel: “That’s going to be a tough one.

“Coming from Paris it was good to get a solid match in today. I felt like I started to find my movement and game a bit more in the second set.

“But playing a guy who is locked, just played with these balls last week as well in Washington and won the title, he is feeling good.

“It’s a really tough second-round match.”

Fritz on the verge of major breakthrough

The American player is yet to reach the last four of a big Grand Slam tournament and losing to Lorenzo Musetti at Wimbledon will have been a blow.

However, there is a sense that he has all of the shots – and a huge serve – that will seriously make him dangerous in the years to come.

Fritz just needs that one piece of luck in a major tournament and then perhaps he can finally add a major title to the eight career titles he’s claimed.

The US Open will be a big one for all of the American stars and Fritz will go into the tournament as one of the home’s best prospects of a win.

Before he can think about that, however, he will want a good run in Montreal and despite his comments, we’d be very surprised if Korda wasn’t swept aside by Fritz.
