Taylor Fritz began his 2025 season in successful fashion, as part of the winning USA team at the United Cup.
Fritz won the United Cup for the second time in his career, claiming the deciding singles rubber victory over Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
Despite winning six matches at the mixed team competition, Fritz only ranked his United Cup performances at 7 ahead of the first major of 2025.
The world number four reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open last year, and Fritz has been backed to impress at the Australian Open.

Taylor Fritz surprised by five set Grand Slam record
Fritz reached the US Open final after beating Frances Tiafoe in five sets back in September, with the American part of multiple matches going the distance in recent years.
In his pre-tournament press conference at the Australian Open, it was revealed to Fritz that he had played more five set matches than any player this decade.
The 27-year-old was then asked whether he was expecting to play more five set matches in Melbourne.
“I hope not (smiling),” responded Fritz. “That really surprises me, because I actually don’t feel like I’ve played a ton of five-setters. I guess I’ve played a good amount.
“But yeah, I don’t know. Hopefully I’m going to not play early five-setters, because then you’re kind of playing catch-up the whole tournament I guess with the toll you’re putting on your body.
“If I’m losing, I don’t know, I’m always down to try to get it done in five sets. Yeah, I think hopefully I’m not going to be having an insane amount of court time.”
How many five set matches has Taylor Fritz played since 2020?
Since 2020, Fritz has played 18 five set matches at Grand Slam tournaments, winning over 60% of those.
The eight-time title winner has expressed his hope to avoid repeating previous feats at the Australian Open, with 13 of his 18 five set matches coming before the fourth round.
Fritz also played more five set matches in a single Grand Slam year than ever before in 2024, including a US Open semi-final and Wimbledon quarter-final.
