The Australian Open is drawing ever closer, with Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic all bidding for history at the first major of 2025.
Last year saw Sinner win his first major title at the Australian Open, before going onto win his second at the US Open.
The world number one is now looking to make history, as Sinner aims to defend his Australian Open title and become the first man to do so in 32 years.
Djokovic will also be looking to make history of his own, as he bids for an 11th Australian Open victory and a 25th Grand Slam title.
Although Alcaraz is yet to surpass the quarter-finals at the Melbourne major, the Spaniard still has an opportunity to achieve a record of his own with the chance to become the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic’s path to the Australian Open final
Djokovic was in unfamiliar territory in 2024, having gone without a Grand Slam title for the first time in seven years.
The 37-year-old has now teamed up with a former rival, after Djokovic appointed Andy Murray as his coach for the Australian Open.
Djokovic has stated his intent to win one more Australian Open, and will start his 2025 campaign against American wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy.
If Djokovic can overcome the inform teenager, he could have a potential third round meeting with Reilly Opelka.
Opelka beat Djokovic at the recent Brisbane International in straight sets, and will likely pose a threat once again due to his huge serve.
Due to slipping down to number seven in the rankings, Djokovic could play Alcaraz as early as the quarter-final stage if both players were to make it there.
Despite the threat posed by the four-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic did beat Alcaraz in a practice set in Melbourne.

Carlos Alcaraz’s path to the Australian Open final
Alcaraz has already won four Grand Slam titles at the age of 21, but the Australian Open is statistically his weakest major tournament with a 70% win percentage.
The world number three has not played any Australian Open warm-up tournaments, but Alcaraz did lose an exhibition match against Alex de Minaur.
Alcaraz will play Alexander Shevchenko in the first round, having beaten the Kazakhstani in their only previous meeting.
If he wants to achieve his best result in Melbourne this year, Alcaraz may have to overcome both Jack Draper and Djokovic, both players who he has lost his most recent match against.

| First Round | Alexander Shevchenko |
| Second Round | Yoshihito Nishioka/Qualifier |

Jannik Sinner’s path to the Australian Open final
Sinner is one of three previous Australian Open champions returning to Melbourne this year, alongside Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka.
Despite coming in as the top seed and defending champion, Sinner has been handed a tricky first round draw against former top 20 player Nicolas Jarry.
Sinner could continue to face obstacles along the way, with potential meetings against compatriot Flavio Cobolli, Danish star Holger Rune and home favourite Alex de Minaur.
There is also the possibility of a rematch of last year’s Australian Open, as Sinner and Daniil Medvedev are on a collision court to meet in the semi-finals in 2025.
| Stage in tournament | Jannik Sinner’s Potential Opponents |
| First Round | Nicolas Jarry |
