Taylor Fritz made fun of himself after suffering a quarter-final exit at Wimbledon.
The American was in a great position to reach the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career following a five-set comeback win over Alexander Zverev in round four.
But he faced an inspired opponent in Lorenzo Musetti, who was also trying to reach the last four of a major for the first time.
But the Italian seized his opportunity as he took out the 12th seed in an entertaining five-set battle to set up a semi-final clash with Novak Djokovic.
What message did Taylor Fritz post on Instagram?
Before flying back to the United States and commencing his preparation for the Paris Olympics, Fritz took to Instagram to comment on his Wimbledon campaign.
He posted a series of photos from his matches at SW19 this year and wrote a caption referring to his ‘safe flight home’ comments directed at his round two opponent Arthur Rinderknech.
“All love Wimbledon. Tough match yesterday, always hurts to come up just short but that’s part of the game,” Fritz posted. “Now all I can do is rest up, get back to work, and have a good flight home.”
His compatriot Ben Shelton, who lost to World number one Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon fourth round, took to the comments to issue his own response to the humorous caption.
“Safe flight. I already had one myself,” the 14th seed said, alongside a laughing face emoji.

What happened between Taylor Fritz and Arthur Rinderknech?
Fritz and Rinderknech’s rivalry began at the French Open in 2023. The 26-year-old shushed the crowd after beating the home favourite, and he received boos and jeers from the crowd.
Prior to their Wimbledon encounter, Rinderknech’s comments were not taken well by Fritz and this explained his remarks at the net once their match had finished.
“He won’t cry as much. He whined a bit saying it was too noisy,” he said about Fritz. “I hold no grudge against him but he was wrong if he thought the crowd would send him kisses in between points.”
Fritz did take too kindly to these comments and after securing a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over the Frenchman at Wimbledon, he savagely told his opponent to “have a nice flight home.”
In his post-match press conference, he added: “He asked me what I said. I told him what I said. He told me he was in doubles still. I said, ‘Oh, congrats, good for you’.
“Then he started acting like, ‘Why are you blah, blah, blah?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, you know what you said — don’t disrespect me before the match and then expect me to be all nice after the match’.”
