Taylor Fritz admittedly has some regrets from his 2025 season on the ATP Tour.

Fritz has struggled for both form and fitness this year, with his most recent defeat coming against Hubert Hurkacz at the Geneva Open.

Despite being the world number four, Fritz is currently down in 19th in the race to the ATP Finals and is in search of some confidence ahead of a busy European summer.

Fritz’s best result came at the Miami Open, but he has now admitted that there were two tournaments around that time that he should not have played in.

Taylor Fritz names the two ATP tournaments he should not have played this year

Fritz has only played nine tournaments in the first five months of the 2025 season, and has won only one of his last four matches.

A big factor in the American number one’s poor start to the season has been an injury, with Fritz suffering an abdominal problem that forced him to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters and the Mexican Open.

Despite withdrawing from more than one tournament this year, Fritz has now admitted ahead of the French Open that he also should not have played in Dallas and Delray Beach.

“I definitely never feel like I don’t feel like going out there,” Fritz said in his pre-tournament press conference. “I always want to go out and play. But that is something I have struggled with a lot this year. I have just been playing when I probably should not be playing.

“I think for Dallas and Delray I definitely should not have been playing and then in Acapulco I was there practicing and in the practices it just became super apparent that I am going to get killed if I play. I am too injured to even put up a decent match.

“That is when I stopped it and it was kind of the same thing after Miami. I re-aggravated my injury after Miami and I was like if I go on clay right now, which is going to be even tougher to play through with my injury then it is going to be a big problem, so I took two more weeks off there. I would say I played through injury a lot over the years.

“I normally do not pull out but I have never really had a lot of injuries which last more than a short time so maybe I play through it one week and the next week it’s fine and I’m good, but this year has been difficult for sure, trying to find the balance between playing and not playing.”

Taylor Fritz’s Potential French Open draw

Fritz will be hoping that injury does not play a part in his French Open campaign this year, where he will be the fourth seed.

The 27-year-old achieved his best result in Paris last year by reaching the fourth round, and Fritz faces a potentially tricky opener against German Daniel Altmaier.

This will be a first-time meeting between Fritz and Altmaier, who has also reached the second week of the French Open before.

Some of the potential seeds Fritz could face in his quarter include compatriot Frances Tiafoe, Sebastian Korda and Alex Michelsen.

The first top 10 player Fritz could play is Lorenzo Musetti, but he would have to reach the French Open quarter-finals for the first time to make that match happen.
