Taylor Fritz continues his Wimbledon preparations this week as he takes on Joao Fonseca in his Eastbourne opener.

Sam Querrey has backed Fritz’s decision to play Eastbourne, with the ATP 250 tournament arriving right before Wimbledon.

Fritz has won the title at Eastbourne on three occasions, representing the most successful event of his career.

He has slipped one spot to fifth in the ATP rankings ahead of the next Grand Slam, which gets underway later this month.

Fritz produced his best-ever Grand Slam result on home soil last year, losing the 2024 US Open final to Jannik Sinner.

But ahead of the next major championship, he has been tasked by The Players’ Tribune to pick his dream doubles partner from past or present players.

And he opted for one of the greatest tennis players of all time, saying: “I feel like Serena… Serena Williams would be kind of perfect.”

WTA icon Williams ended her phenomenal career with 23 Grand Slam singles titles to her name, along with 14 women’s doubles titles and two mixed doubles titles.

Joao Fonseca and Jakub Mensik agree over dream doubles partner

Fritz wasn’t the only ATP Tour player tasked with the challenge of naming their dream doubles partner from past or present names.

Rising star Joao Fonseca also took on the question, with the Brazilian teenager opting to choose Roger Federer.

Jacob Fearnley and Nuno Borges also picked the legendary 20-time Grand Slam champion, with Flavio Cobolli choosing Novak Djokovic.

Jakub Mensik meanwhile went with Federer as his past player and 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic as his current playing dream partner.

And Zizou Bergs was another who opted for the Swiss icon, but also decided to include his idol Andy Roddick.

The idea of dream doubles pairings has certainly become a reality for some players this season after the US Open partnerships were announced.

Star duo Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu will take on the Grand Slam together, while Fritz is teaming up with Elena Rybakina.

Other intriguing pairings include Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, and Qinwen Zheng and Jack Draper.
