Taylor Fritz is really enjoying his tennis at this moment in time, with the American having just reached a first-ever Grand Slam final.

Fritz is trying to take the positives after his superb run at the US Open, where he lost in the final to Jannik Sinner.

The Flushing Meadows 12th seed was beaten in straight sets by the world number one, but he can undoubtedly hold his head high after the run.

Now all of Fritz’s focus is on the Laver Cup, where he is on John McEnroe’s six-strong Team World team in Berlin.

And he has already gotten off to the perfect start, with the American partnering with Ben Shelton to win their doubles match on day one.

He has, however, felt the need to clarify recent comments he made after that superb US Open run, with Fritz feeling worse than he expected after the final.

The new world number seven told the Nothing Major podcast: “To be honest I feel probably worse than I would have expected to feel if you told me I was making a spa final.

“I have been sitting at my desk playing video games for 12 hours a day. Really destructive habits when I’m by myself after a tournament.”

But he has now taken to social media to explain those comments, with Fritz writing on X: “This makes it sound bad.

“The gaming and the eating was more celebratory, it’s pretty normal for me to decompress like this for 2/3 days after weeks on the road, always been part of my process and helps me feel ready to get back to work.”

After that fantastic venture in Queens, New York, Fritz finds himself seventh in the ATP Tour rankings, just two spots away from his career-high of fifth.

He overcame the likes of top-10 stars Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud on his way to the final, along with Cincinnati Open runner-up Frances Tiafoe.

Sinner also won that tournament, with Fritz unable to take revenge on the Italian for his compatriot and current Laver Cup teammate.

But the American does have two titles to his name in 2024, and recently took his win-loss record to 44-17.

The future really is looking bright for the 26-year-old Californian, whose current focus will be on trying to clinch a third successive Laver Cup win for Team World.
