Holger Rune must wait to bounce back from his Wimbledon nightmare after withdrawing from the Washington Open with injury.
Rune has just hired fitness coach Marco Panichi, who has previously worked with both Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.
But the young Dane is now out of action for the time being, having last played at Wimbledon at the end of June.
At the grass court Grand Slam, five-time ATP Tour champion Rune suffered a shock first round loss to Nicolas Jarry.
Rune had a knee injury as he exited Wimbledon, with the 22-year-old now experiencing a different problem with his body.

And that back problem has ruled him out of Washington, with lucky loser Corentin Moutet replacing him for the match against Alexandre Muller.
Sharing an update on his status, Rune wrote on X: “Super unlucky. Yesterday in practice my back locked and I am not fit to play today.

“I tried it before and nothing dramatic, just super bad timing, as I looked very much forward to play tonight in Washington. See you all soon.”
Holger Rune’s Washington Open withdrawal continues worrying ATP trend
Moutet certainly took advantage of his good fortune, with the Frenchman securing a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over his compatriot Muller.
He now takes on Dan Evans in the round of 16 at the ATP 500 event in Washington DC, while Rune will be trying to recover as soon as possible.
The Dane has endured an up-and-down season so far, recently dropping one spot to ninth in the ATP rankings.
Hiring Panichi should hopefully move him in the right direction, while Rune has just trained with Andre Agassi as well.
It remains to be seen what will happen after their three-day trial, with Rune having enjoyed his time with Agassi in Washington DC.
He has 22 wins and 14 losses to his name at this stage of the season, with his only ATP title arriving at Barcelona in April.
Rune’s unfortunate withdrawal meanwhile continues a worrying trend of late, after Jannik Sinner withdrew from Toronto.
But he is by no means the only star to have done so, with Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic also out, while Jack Draper withdrew from Toronto and Cincinnati.
