Serena Williams continues her remarkable return this week as she plays doubles at the Berlin Open.

Williams is playing with Karolina Muchova at the WTA 500 event in Germany, which represents her second tournament since coming back to the sport.

After a break of almost four years, Williams played doubles with Victoria Mboko at Queen’s, and the pair won their opening match.

But an injury to Mboko brought an abrupt end to their run, with the 23-time Grand Slam champion now looking for further success at the Berlin Open.

However, her prospects of playing singles at Wimbledon have now been discussed, with Steve Johnson giving his verdict on a potential appearance.

Steve Johnson predicts if Serena Williams will play Wimbledon singles

Speaking on the Nothing Major Show, former ATP player Johnson said of Williams possibly competing in Wimbledon singles: “No, just based on the movement being so hard on the grass.

“To come out of retirement and then to play singles on the grass at the first event seems like a tall task.

“If you want to go out there you want to feel as if you are doing what you do best.

“I see her playing doubles and then I see her potentially playing singles just on a more stable hard court in the States, maybe playing a couple of matches and then the US Open.

“I don’t see her playing singles at Wimbledon but I hope I am wrong because if she does play singles at Wimbledon the whole world will be watching, every tennis person will be watching that match which is likely to be on Centre, which is what she deserves.”

What is Serena Williams’ record at Wimbledon?

The world would indeed be watching Williams at Wimbledon, with the American certain to attract global interest at SW19 given her accomplishments and her remarkable return.

She is back playing at the age of 44, and importantly gave a good account of herself in her first and only match with Mboko.

And the same can be said of her stunning efforts at Wimbledon over the years, which include seven singles titles, six doubles titles and one mixed doubles title.

It’s a simply phenomenal honors list at the All England Club, and one that may just persuade organizers to hand the veteran a wildcard to take part.

Intriguingly, she has just received a wildcard for the doubles draw, where she will play alongside her sister Venus Williams.
