Stefanos Tsitsipas has named the player he thinks will triumph at the US Open – the final Grand Slam of the year.
Soon thousands of tennis fans will descend on New York to catch the pulsating action from Flushing Meadows.
Players are aiming to peak in time for the event, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, who failed to win an Olympic medal and has not had the best 2024 season.
He is still searching for his first Grand Slam title and it will be difficult for him to change that in New York this year.
Who does Stefanos Tsitsipas think will win the US Open title?
There are several players in contention to become US Open champion.
No player has managed to defend the title at Flushing Meadows since Roger Federer claimed his fifth successive crown in 2008.
Novak Djokovic will enter the latest edition of the Grand Slam as the defending champion, but it is World number one Jannik Sinner who Tsitsipas thinks will lift the US Open title for the first time.
“He has a great game, very complete game, he can run around the court quite fast and cover lots of it. I feel like he has a lot of weapons that he can utilise effectively,” Tsitsipas told the ATP Tour’s YouTube channel.
“One thing that he probably lacks a bit is his net game but over the last few years tennis has changed over the last few years and become slightly different to what it was.”
What is Stefanos Tsitsipas’ record at the US Open?
Tsitsipas has played some of his best tennis at the Australian Open and French Open, but he has struggled each time he has played at the US Open.
Since making his main draw debut at the tournament in 2018, the World number 11 has claimed just one six wins and suffered six defeats.
He has failed to progress beyond the third round and the last time he managed to achieve that was in 2021.
This is Tsitsipas’ least successful Grand Slam and it will come as a surprise to many if he made a deep run at Flushing Meadows this year.
