Novak Djokovic is often considered the greatest tennis player of all time, but not by world number 26 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic is a record 24-time Grand Slam champion, winning nine of those major titles with Goran Ivanisevic as his coach.

The Serbian parted ways with the former Wimbledon champion last year, with Ivanisevic now coaching Tsitsipas.

While Djokovic and Tsitsipas now have that in common, the Greek has picked another player as his greatest player of all time.

Stefanos Tsitsipas names Roger Federer as the greatest player of all time over Novak Djokovic

As a result of winning more major titles than anyone else, Djokovic is often seen as the greatest player in history.

However, when speaking in a video at the Patrick Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, Tsitsipas revealed that he thinks that his greatest men’s player of all time is Roger Federer.

Federer previously made a big claim about Tsitsipas, and now the two-time Grand Slam finalist has returned the favour claiming that not having the most major titles does not matter to him.

“My GOAT would be Roger Federer,” said Tsitsipas. “Obviously he doesn’t have the most Grand Slam titles but – to me – it doesn’t matter. To me, what matters is the effect that he has had on the world of tennis, not just on the world of tennis, but in global sports.

“I would compare it to the effect of Michael Jordan and I feel lucky that I have had the opportunity to share the tennis court with him.

“It was probably one of the most majestic experiences of my life, getting to step out on the court and play against him. I suddenly felt alive, even though he kicked my a** a few times.”

Djokovic has won more Grand Slam titles than both his former rivals, but it is Federer who has won the most ATP titles overall.

Tsitsipas played Federer four times before he retired in 2022, with their head-to-head level at two wins apiece.

However, the former world number three has a losing record against both Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Who does Stefanos Tsitsipas believe is the greatest WTA player of all time?

Tsitsipas, whose girlfriend is Paula Badosa, followed up on his comments about Federer by naming his greatest women’s player of all time.

The 26-year-old went on to name Serena Williams, who Tsitsipas has previously trained with.

“On the woman’s side, I would say Serena Williams, what she has done is superb,” said Tsitsipas.

“Her story is unique and I really look up to her and she has big charisma and also presence because I’ve spoken to her a few times and I’ve obviously practised with her, I feel like she really deserves that title.”

Tsitsipas is not the only person who has recently made this claim, with Chris Evert also calling Williams the greatest after ranking her top five.
