Paula Badosa returned to action with a hard-fought win at the 2025 Miami Open.
Spanish star Badosa withdrew ahead of Indian Wells with an injury to her back that she sustained earlier in the month at the Merida Open.
Bouncing back in Miami, Badosa battled past the talented young Canadian, Victoria Mboko in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6.

She’ll now take on another youngster, Clara Tauson in the next round as she looks to advance to the last 16 of the Miami Open for just the second time in her career.
Looking ahead to a tournament later in the year, the WTA star has now been asked whether she plans to take part in the mixed doubles event.
Paula Badosa says ‘maybe’ when asked if she’ll play mixed doubles with Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open
The world number 11 was asked whether she plans to take part in the mixed doubles event at this year’s US Open alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas.
“Maybe,” answered Badosa.
“Honestly when we do it it’s just a little bit last moment you know because also I think we have our singles, our main goal is the singles.
“Sometimes if we feel the moment or maybe physically we’re fresh we’re like let’s go, let’s play and have some fun together because it’s something unique.
“But for now, I would lie if I said no, I would lie if I said yes.
“It’s a maybe.”
Badosa and Tsitsipas took part in the mixed doubles at last year’s US Open, losing out in the first round to the Mexican pair of Giuliana Olmos and Santiago Gonzalez, 6-7, 4-6.
The 2025 US Open will introduce a new mixed doubles format, which will be played over two days during the first week of the tournament.
Eight of the 16 teams will enter directly into the draw thanks to their combined singles ranking, something the world number 11 and eight will likely qualify for without too much trouble.
The Greek star recently gave his thoughts on the change, as Tsitsipas said he would ‘want to share the court’ with Badosa.

“She’s the mixed doubles partner I would always play with,” said Tsitsipas.
“I don’t have any other options out there or any other female player that I would want to play mixed doubles with.
“She’s always under my consideration and always someone I would want to share the court with.”
Paula Badosa says she asks two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas for advice and vice versa
The Spaniard went on to explain how her relationship with Tsitsipas works, and how the pair help get the best out of each other.
“Yeah that’s for sure, 100% we understand each other,” said Badosa.

“It’s never easy, he’s been there when I maybe wasn’t in my best moment, I’ve been there when he hasn’t been [in] his best moment.
“Also, he’s a guy who expresses himself a lot with his face so I can know, maybe imagine what he feels, I’m the same so I think we help each other.”
Badosa also said that she asks Tsitsipas for advice and that the 26-year-old does the same to her.
“Having advice from someone who has been and is so good at what he does is also inspiring,” she said.

“Sometimes I ask him questions like, what would you do in this moment because you’ve been in Slam finals and achieved so much so I want to know how you would deal in that moment.
“He does the same with me you know, so helping each other and understanding each other I think helps us in our life.”
Tsitsipas has competed in two Grand Slam finals, coming up short against Novak Djokovic on both occasions.
- 2021 French Open F – Stefanos Tsitsipas lost to Novak Djokovic, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6, 4-6
- 2023 Australian Open F – Stefanos Tsitsipas lost to Novak Djokovic, 3-6, 6-7, 6-7
The world number eight came closest to Grand Slam glory at the French Open in 2021, when he led by two sets to love, before the Serb battled back to win in five.
He would no doubt love to go one better and pick up his maiden Major title when he travels to Paris for the 2025 French Open which begins on May 25.
