Stefanos Tsitsipas’ father has been told what his next steps should be now he is no longer coaching his son.
Tsitsipas announced his dad was no longer his coach last Thursday, less than 24 hours after some scathing comments about his dad Apostolos after losing to Kei Nishikori at the Canadian Open.
The Greek player has not enjoyed the best season and has since fallen out of the top 10 and has underperformed at the Grand Slams so far this season.
He has now taken a big decision to bring his father’s time as his coach to an end, especially with the US Open on the horizon.
What has Stefanos Tsitsipas’ father been told to do ahead of the US Open?
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ latest coaching announcement marks the second time that his father has stopped coaching him.
The two-time Grand Slam finalist stopped working with Apostolos in 2023 and hired former World No. 8 Mark Philippoussis, before ending that partnership after two months to resume working with his dad.
With their coaching relationship now seemingly over for good, Tsitsipas released a statement in which he stated his father would still travel to events with him.
This left the Tennis Podcast very surprised and urged Apostolos Tsitsipas to completely remove himself from his son’s team for the player’s own good.
“For me the key line is ‘my father’s going to continue to travel with me’, thus mitigating any benefits that there might be of changing the situation,” they said.
I think while his father continues to travel with him and is there it is going to be impossible for any other coach to come in and have a meaningful impact.
“I think Apostolos needs to step aside and say this isn’t about me and let you be you and figure this out on your own. It just sounds tremendously messy.”

Who is Stefanos Tsitsipas’ new coach?
Tsitsipas has wasted little time sorting a replacement coach after parting ways with his father.
Tsitsipas is now working with Greek Davis Cup captain Dimitris Hadjinikolaou at the ongoing Cincinnati Open.
Hadjinikolaou also led the Greek team at the Paris Olympics and according to tennis24, he previously worked with Stefanos’ younger brother Petros.
SDNA reported that Hadjinikolaou will be in Tsitsipas’ box for the US Open and this is a partnership that is set to be a long-term one.
