Tennis legend Stefan Edberg had his say on who he thinks will win the ATP Finals while praising Jannik Sinner.

The World number one has been outstanding in 2024 and he aims to put the icing on the cake by winning the season-ending championships for the first time.

He has yet to lose in Turin and is one match away from getting back to the championship match, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in 2023.

However, much has changed since then, with Sinner now the world’s best player and Djokovic not even competing at the 2024 ATP Finals due to injury.

Who does Stefan Edberg think is the favourite to win the ATP Finals?

Two players have stood out above the rest at the ATP Finals so far, Sinner and year-end World number two, Alexander Zverev.

They both reached the semi-finals without losing a match and neither have dropped a set so far. Furthermore, Sinner’s serve has been broken just once in the tournament, while Zverev has yet to drop serve.

Stefan Edberg, who won the ATP FInals in 1989, spoke to Sky Sports and SInner as the slight favourite for the title just ahead of Zverev.

“I would say he’s (Sinner) one of the favourites,” former world number one Edberg said. “Zverev has been impressive, you can’t count him out. But I would pick one of the two, with Sinner being the small favourite out of the two.”

Stefan Edberg praises Jannik Sinner ahead of his semi-final at the ATP Finals

Sinner has received plenty of praise from past and present players for his achievements in 2024.

This year the Italian emerged not only as a threat to the best players but becoming the world’s best himself. He has won seven titles this season and broke through at Grand Slam level, winning the Australian and US Open events.

He has a healthy lead at the top of the ATP rankings and SInner is looking strong heading into next season, and Edberg likes what he sees.

“It has been incredible, the progress he has had over the last two years,” the 58-year-old added. He has had a phenomenal year and he has a good chance of winning here.

“There are still a few more matches to be played but it’s really boiling in here. I was watching here yesterday and it’s really some place to be, especially when he plays.”
