After only winning four matches on the ATP Tour this year, Wawrinka is ranked outside the top 150 in the world rankings.
This means that Wawrinka will likely require wildcards for many tournaments next year, including the Australian Open, for which he has not been given yet.
While it is still unclear as to whether Wawrinka will have to play in Australian Open qualifying or not, he has already been confirmed to compete at the United Cup and the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland.
Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?
As well as playing, Wawrinka will also be captaining Switzerland at the United Cup, and he has now been announced for a another tournament after the Australian Open.
The Open Occitanie tournament in Montpellier has announced that Wawrinka will be playing at the ATP 250 event for a second consecutive year in February.
What happened when Stan Wawrinka made his debut in Montpellier earlier this year?
Although he has been playing on the ATP Tour since 2002, next year will be only the second time that Wawrinka has competed at the tournament in Montpellier.
The only other time came earlier this year, when Wawrinka received a wildcard for the tournament held in the south of France.
Wawrinka did not find much success on this occasion, and lost in the first round to Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.
What is your boldest tennis prediction for 2026?
While he has not found much success on the main tour, Wawrinka has achieved some impressive results on the ATP Challenger Tour, including reaching two finals.
Wawrinka will be hoping to translate this form to the biggest stage when he begins his 2026 and potentially final season at the United Cup in Perth.
