Despite his prime falling in an incredibly difficult era dominated by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka managed to clinch a treble of majors throughout his career.
Following his maiden triumph at the 2014 Australian Open, Wawrinka clinched his second Grand Slam title at the 2015 French Open.
He enjoyed an incredible campaign in Paris that year, beating the likes of Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga before overcoming Djokovic in the final.

The Serb, who was attempting to finally clinch the Career Grand Slam once again that year, lost to Wawrinka in four sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
After the match, the Swiss star faced the media and made a prediction about Djokovic’s future in tennis, which ultimately came true.
Stan Wawrinka’s post-match prediction for Novak Djokovic
In his post-match press conference, Wawrinka said of his relationship with Djokovic: “Well, we are really good friends, and we practice almost like every week and almost every tournament. I have a great relationship with his team.
“I have a lot of respect for what they have been doing for many years, you know. He’s the number one and is winning so many titles.”
Who is the greatest male tennis player of all time?
Djokovic’s 2015 season was arguably the greatest individual campaign in history, and heading into Roland Garros that year, he had only lost two matches since January.
| Tournament | Result |
| Qatar Open | Quarterfinals |
| Australian Open | Champion |
| Dubai Tennis Championships | Runner-Up |
| Indian Wells Open | Champion |
| Miami Open | Champion |
| Monte-Carlos Masters | Champion |
| Italian Open | Champion |
| Roland Garros | Runner-Up |
He went on to win Wimbledon and the US Open as well in 2015 after suffering the near miss at Roland Garros.
Djokovic had recorded 11 appearances in the French capital and made the final three times, but simply could not get over the line.
However, Wawrinka was confident that Djokovic would one day etch his name in history as one of the few stars to hoist all four major titles.

He said: “I’m really happy to have won it, but for sure I know he’s looking badly and desperately for this title.
“I’m sure he’s going to get one one day because he’s so strong. He’s the best player so far. Since two years now, he’s been number one. The way he was playing these two weeks was just amazing.”
Stan Wawrinka’s reaction to beating Novak Djokovic in 2015
Wawrinka’s victory was just his fourth against Djokovic, in what was a fairly one-sided rivalry.
He had lost 17 of his previous 20 meetings with Djokovic, but did manage to beat him in the 2014 Australian Open quarterfinals en route to the title.
When asked what was different about this title compared to his first in Melbourne, Wawrinka said: “It’s just different. I don’t try to compare at all.
“For me, this one is really special for sure playing Novak here in the final, the number one player. He has won almost everything since the beginning of the year.
Do you think Novak Djokovic will play at the 2028 LA Olympics?
“And especially the way I played and the way I finished the match, the way I was focused all the match, the way I changed the momentum.
“I think at the beginning it’s always the same when I play Novak. He’s the player who stays on the line and tries to dictate, always making the other uncomfortable.
“He was playing well. He was fresh. It was windy, not easy, but I know that with me, it can change quickly.
“I know how to do it. I was trying to have a longer rally, trying to play more deeply, trying to play more aggressively from baseline, and little by little I started to be the other player inside the court.

“That’s the way I have to play if I want to beat him. I’m still surprised the way I played, because I think I played amazingly today.
“I was really nervous, but I didn’t really choke. I was always going for my shot, always going for the right play. I’m really happy with the trophy tonight.”
Wawrinka secured his third Grand Slam at the 2016 US Open, but has not been able to add another to his tally since then.
