Carlos Alcaraz has just added another Grand Slam title to his trophy cabinet.

Picking up major title number seven, Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in the 2026 Australian Open final.

He has now completed the Career Grand Slam, having already won titles at the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.

Who finishes their career on more majors – Alcaraz or Djokovic?

Such a remarkable achievement deserves praise and respect, something Alcaraz is becoming used to by now.

Shortly after converting match point against Djokovic, Alcaraz received a message of support from the Spanish Prime Minister.

“A champion who makes us thrill with his tennis and fills us with pride.

“Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz.”

Alcaraz certainly filled the Spanish people with pride on Sunday evening.

He didn’t have things easy in the early stages of the Australian Open final, but refused to give up.

Djokovic won the first set 6-2 and looked to have all the momentum.

But Alcaraz fought back, securing the win in four sets, making history on Rod Laver Arena.

The win was his second in a row against Djokovic, avenging his defeat to the Serb from the Australian Open a year ago.

Fernando Verdasco reacts to Carlos Alcaraz’s Australian Open win

Sanchez wasn’t the only Spaniard who congratulated Alcaraz.

Former world number seven, Fernando Verdasco, was another to share his congratulations on X.

“Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz, on your first Australian Open,” he said.

“Surely the first of many.”

Alcaraz is one of just two Spanish players to have won the Australian Open title.

Rafael Nadal was the first, winning in 2009 and 2022.

If Alcaraz can defend his title in 2027, he’ll move level with Nadal on two wins down under.

It wasn’t just Spaniards celebrating Alcaraz’s achievement, though, as former American pro James Blake congratulated him on X as well.

“History,” he said.

“Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz, and inspiring from Novak Djokovic to play that level as well.”

More messages continue to roll in as the tennis world reacts to Alcaraz’s history-making moment down under.
