The former coach of Serena Williams reserved huge praise for Carlos Alcaraz.
Over the course of just two years the 21-year-old established himself as one of the top players in the game with the potential to finish his career as an all-time great.
He already has four Grand Slam titles to his name and Carlos Alcaraz hopes to add to his tally throughout 2025.
The World number three has plenty of shots in his repertoire that can help him achieve that, and there is one in particular that drew the attention of a top tennis coach.

What did Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci say about Carlos Alcaraz’s drop shot?
Alcaraz possesses an array of shots that can cause his opponents plenty of problems on court.
At times it appears as though he can struggle with shot selection, because he has so many that he can choose from.
But the former World number one’s drop shot is one of the most elegant shots played on the ATP Tour today.
It has caught the attention of Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci, who thinks it the best he has seen in the history of the game.
“When Carlos is on the dirt he can slide and skirt. But when you’re out of position the Spanish magician uses the drop shot which is a crowd pleaser and puts you in the freezer,” Macci posted on X.
“Best drop shot the game has seen even though you do not see it coming!”

How often does Carlos Alcaraz use the drop shot in matches?
On average Alcaraz hits 3.81 forehand drop shots per match and 1.84 backhand drop shots per match.
Alcaraz disguises the shot beautifully, which is even more difficult for opponents to contend with.
Back in September 2024, the ATP Tour posted a video to their YouTube channel of Alcaraz answering questions from his fellow players.
One of those to pose a question to the four-time Grand Slam champion was World number one Jannik Sinner.
The Australian and US Open champion, who has been on the receiving end of his rival’s drop shots, asked the Spaniard: “How can you perform your drop shots in such a beautiful way?”
Alcaraz, who did not expect this question, replied: “I’ve been practicing the drop shot since I was seven or eight years old,” he said. “There has been so much hours on it, that’s why.”
