Wimbledon is just around the corner, and Coco Gauff will once again be looking to carry the flag when it comes to American tennis.

Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka to win her first French Open crown last weekend and it’s fair to say that she’s the toast of women’s tennis across the globe right now.

When it comes to the United States, tennis looks to be back on the up, with a host of players now capable of winning Grand Slam titles.

Madison Keys won the first major of 2025 by lifting the Australian Open crown and now Gauff has followed suit in Paris.

The future looks extremely bright in the United States and other players are competing to battle it out with the likes of Gauff and Keys further down the line.

Rick Macci picks Sofia Kenin to shine at Wimbledon

Kenin was beaten by Keys in the third round at Roland Garros a fortnight ago and she quickly turned her attention towards the grass court season.

The 26-year-old will play at the Grass Court Championships in Berlin this week and takes on Swiss performer Rebeka Masarova in the first round.

Macci believes she could be one to watch at Wimbledon, believing the world number 30 might make some waves at the All England Club.

He posted on X: “One of my favourite students of all time, Sonia Kenin, the scariest little creature I ever taught, is a rough out on grass. She can do major damage at Wimbledon as her game and dropper are made for the lawn. My wildcard is Sonia ,and if she gets a good draw, she goes from pretender to contender.”

Kenin has already won a Grand Slam title after claiming the Australian Open crown in 2020, beating Garbine Muguruza in the final.

Macci claim is intriguing based on Kenin’s record at Wimbledon

Although Kenin’s game is tailor-made for the grass, her form at Wimbledon doesn’t necessarily dictate that.

The Moscow-born player has only ever been to the third round of the competition once and that came in 2023.

Last year, she was dumped out in round one against Iga Swiatek, and Kenin will want to perform far better this time around in London.

Macci is clearly a huge fan of Kenin and it will now be fascinating to see what happens should she receive a favourable draw at this year’s Wimbledon.
