After an underwhelming clay court season for Taylor Fritz, he looks hellbent on making amends on the grass, with the American beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Boss Open in Stuttgart.
All eyes will turn towards Queen’s this week for many of the ATP Tour’s top stars. Fritz takes on a qualifier in the first round, and after his latest triumph, he will fancy making waves in London.
For Zverev, he once again tasted defeat at the hands of Fritz. It’s now five defeats on the spin for the German against the 27-year-old, with two of those coming during matches on the grass.
Fritz was beaten in the opening round at the French Open. Daniel Altmaier of Germany defeated him against the odds and one positive of that result is that he’s had ample time to prepare properly for the grass tournaments.

Taylor Fritz sends instant message to Alexander Zverev after BOSS Open final
Zverev is sick of the sight of Fritz these days and if the pair meet at Wimbledon, it’s the American who will have the edge in the match-up.
After Fritz had won the match, he delivered a message to his beaten opponent out on the court. He said: “”First off congrats to Sascha and his team, you know what he did this week was really tough coming from deep in the French Open, coming up for the fans, playing for the German fans and make this switch to the grass, so congrats it’s a good effort to be out here.”
Fritz will be a contender to win Wimbledon given his pedigree on the grass and last season he managed to reach the quarter-final before losing to Lorenzo Musetti in a five-set thriller.
Fritz can save his season with Wimbledon run
It has not been a great year to date for Fritz, although this victory does get him out of the mini-slump, albeit in an event that is considered an ATP 250 tournament.
Fritz is dangerous on grass and as a result, the opposition will have to watch out for the American player at Wimbledon and a good run there could actually revive him and save his year a little bit.
After reaching the US Open final last year, it was anticipated that Fritz would begin to kick on. However, that hasn’t been the case and instead, he slipped out of the top four position that he’s held in the rankings for some time.
This win should do wonders for Fritz’s confidence and he might take some stopping at Wimbledon if he can get through the first couple of rounds and settle into the competition.
