Coco Gauff suffered a shock defeat in the first round of Wimbledon this year.
Gauff was beaten by Dayana Yastremska in her only match at The Championships in 2025, bringing an end to her Grand Slam winning streak after her Roland Garros triumph.
While this is an uncommon position for the American to be in, it is not the first time that Gauff has lost in the first round of Wimbledon.
Trying to take perspective on her defeat at just 21-years-old, Gauff revealed the changes she may make for Wimbledon next year.

Rick Macci has ‘no doubt’ over what Coco Gauff will do after her Wimbledon defeat
Gauff lost both of her grass court matches this year, also losing her opening match at the Berlin Tennis Open.
Despite the disappointing grass court season, there are still people that believe that Gauff has what it takes to perform at Wimbledon in future years.
One of those is Rick Macci, who has previously helped coach three former Wimbledon champions in both Serena and Venus Williams, as well as Maria Sharapova.
In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Macci claimed that he had ‘no doubt’ that Gauff would win the Wimbledon title one day.
He wrote, “Coco some day no doubt will win Wimbledon. She is 21 and just begun. Her inner qualities and speed is all you need. Forehand will become more compact and easier for her to attack. Coco will come back stronger and because of her backbone her game will last longer.”
Gauff once targeted at least 10 major titles for her career before she retired, meaning that she is currently eight away from that goal.
Coco Gauff’s record at Wimbledon
Gauff’s game does not naturally suit grass, which is evident by her record at Wimbledon that is by far her weakest major tournament.
It was actually Wimbledon where she made her breakthrough as a 15-year-old, which started by Gauff beating Venus Williams in the first round.
She went on to reach the fourth round that year, but has not been able to improve on that since.
| Year | Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon Result |
| 2019 | Lost in the fourth round to Simona Halep (7) |
| 2021 | Lost in the fourth round to Angelique Kerber (25) |
| 2022 | Lost in the third round to Amanda Anisimova (20) |
| 2023 | Lost in the first round to Sofia Kenin (Q) |
| 2024 | Lost in the fourth round to Emma Navarro (19) |
| 2025 | Lost in the first round to Dayana Yastremska |
Following the disappointment of her latest defeat, Gauff will now look to move on ahead of the North American hard court swing.
Gauff is next scheduled to compete at the Canadian Open in Montreal, which will begin on Sunday, July 27.
