Sam Querrey has named which American player he believes will have the best campaign at the US Open.
The Canadian Open is well underway and players are doing their utmost to be in top form on the road to the final Grand Slam of the year.
The US players will certainly want to have a good showing at their home major, an honour not every player has the luxury of experiencing.
There are several American competitors who have a great chance of claiming glory in Flushing Meadows, and Sam Querrey named which women he thinks has the best shot.
Sam Querrey names the American woman with best shot of going furthest at the US Open
The US has five women ranked inside the top 15 of the WTA rankings. They are now all back in more familiar surroundings in North America after long clay and grass court stints in Europe.
Jessica Pegula is currently defending her title at the Canadian Open in Toronto while Coco Gauff is gearing up to defend her US Open title at the end of the month.
The likes of Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro are also big threats for the title at Flushing Meadows, but Querrey thinks Gauff will have the best campaign out of the American women.
“It’s a fantastic group of women. They have all had gigantic ups over the last couple of years. They’re all playing great. But I loved how Coco Gauff played,” Querrey told Tennis Channel. “And her outfit was cool. I liked the shoes and the sneakers.
“She had a good vibe going. I kind of like that, I feel like that is the girl I’m watching this summer and I like her chances to do the best out of that group.”

Is Coco Gauff out of the Canadian Open?
Querrey was pleased with how Gauff played in her opening match at the Canadian Open against Wang Yafan, but she is now out of the tournament.
The 20-year-old took on Russia’s Diana Shnaider in round three, but she was second best in every department as she slumped to a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.
Shnaider broke Gauff’s serve three times and did not face a break point on her own serve, while the top seed faced eight doubles faults and made just 50% of her first serves.
Shnaider scored her first top 10 win in the process and is into the quarterfinal at a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career.
“I felt like I just wasn’t finding my timing well and I had a lot of unforced errors and double faults,” Gauff said post-match. “She played steady and didn’t give me any free points so kudos to her.”
