Sam Querrey predicts how far Alexander Bublik will go at Wimbledon this year after his Halle title

Alexander Bublik has found form at the perfect time for Wimbledon, having just triumphed at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle.

Bublik wished Daniil Medvedev success after winning their Halle final, where he secured the trophy via a 6-3, 7-6(7-4) victory.

Boris Becker praised Bublik for his post-match comments, with the latter now a five-time winner on the ATP Tour.

Bublik also won in Halle in 2023, with two triumphs in Marseille and one in Antwerp representing his other titles.

He has also climbed 15 spots to 30th in the world rankings thanks to his run in Halle, which included a victory over world number one Jannik Sinner.

His focus will soon turn to Wimbledon, with the grass court Grand Slam set to get underway in London later this month.

And former player Sam Querrey has now discussed Bublik’s potential fortunes at the All England Club, saying on the Nothing Major Show: “I am not that surprised [about him winning Halle].

“Bublik can play on the grass and when he is locked in which he seems to be more frequently now he is good!

“He has a massive serve, he is talented at the net – with the hands and the feel. He is also talented from the baseline.

“He will throw in drop shots. He knows how to play on the grass and he is playing within the barriers a little more now.

“He is erratic still, but he has honed that in. I think that is what we saw in the quarter-final of Roland Garros and now winning Halle.

“I am not going to say he is a dark horse to win Wimbledon but he could make the semis there if he is locked in mentally now.”

Bublik produced his best-ever Grand Slam finish at the French Open earlier this month, where he reached the quarter-finals.

His superb run was ended by top seed and eventual runner-up Sinner, before he gained his revenge in their Halle round of 16 tie.

Seventh and eighth seeds Tomas Machac and Karen Khachanov respectively were also among his victims in Germany, along with third seed Medvedev.

And that should give him huge confidence for Wimbledon, with his run to the fourth round in 2023 representing his best finish at SW19.
