Taylor Fritz will be looking to end the winning run of two-time defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Fritz has reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time this year, despite playing two five set matches in his first two rounds.
This has continued an impressive grass court season for the American, with Fritz winning titles in Eastbourne and Stuttgart.
However, it does not get much tougher than his semifinal match, where Fritz will play Alcaraz, who is currently on a 23-match winning streak.
Now, former Wimbledon semifinalist Sam Querrey has rated Fritz’s chances against Alcaraz.

Sam Querrey says if he thinks Taylor Fritz can beat Carlos Alcaraz
Fritz is the first American man to reach a singles semifinal at Wimbledon since John Isner in 2018.
When speaking on the Nothing Major podcast, Isner asked the aforementioned Querrey about how he rated Fritz’s chances against Alcaraz.
Querrey gave a pretty emphatic response to that question, while Isner backed his fellow American’s attributes to make the match tough for Alcaraz.
Isner asked Querrey, “What type of chance do you give Taylor?”
Querrey responded, “No chance. Unless Carlos has some type of injury during the match, I give Taylor no chance. I hate to say it, I hate to say it. Taylor, Carlos is too good right now. Do you give him a chance?”
Isner then gave his verdict on the semifinal, “I do…I just think Taylor is crazy enough to think he’s going to win this match. Taylor certainly believes he’s going to win this match, so he’s going to take to the court with that belief. He has two days off, he’s full of confidence. He doesn’t move as well as Carlos.”
Querrey: “What does he do better than Carlos?”
Isner: “He competes every bit as good as Carlos Alcaraz.
Querrey: “Yep, I’ll agree with you on that. Is his serve as good as Carlos?”
Isner: “You know what Sam, his serve is better than Carlos with stats. He’s not necessarily backing it up with better stuff than Carlos. Obviously the massive edge in movement goes to Carlos. But backhand to backhand, I don’t mind Taylor in that pattern…I’m not calling the upset, but I think it’s going to be an absolute battle out there. We’re all pulling for Taylor.”
Querrey: “I’m going to go Carlos in three.”
Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz Head-to-Head
The Wimbledon semifinal will be a third meeting between Alcaraz and Fritz, with the former winning both of their two previous matches in straight sets.
However, they have never played on grass before, with their most recent encounter coming on indoor hard courts at the Laver Cup in Berlin last year.
| Year | Tournament | Result |
| 2023 | Miami Open | Alcaraz beat Fritz, 6-4 6-2 |
| 2024 | Laver Cup | Alcaraz beat Fritz, 6-2 7-5 |
Alcaraz and Fritz will be the first men’s singles Wimbledon semifinal this year on Friday, July 11.
The winner of the match will reach the Wimbledon final against either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic.
