We have seen the King of Clay return and we have now seen him leave, and the Roland Garros 2024 is worse off for it.

Credit to Alexander Zverev, who made light work of the 14-time champion, but his straight sets win was not the outcome people wanted to see when they clamoured onto Philippe-Chatrier to watch Rafael Nadal.

Alas, the tournament goes on, and we have yet another blockbuster day of matches on both the men’s and women’s sides to keep us entertained.

Regardless of who goes out, the French Open show must go on!

Key storylines to follow on day three of Roland Garros 2024

Although not quite as star-studded as yesterday, there is still plenty for tennis fans to stick their teeth into in Paris today.

Alex de Minaur’s clash with American Alex Michelsen is one such example, with two energetic young players set to face off.

Meanwhile, the US number one Taylor Fritz will be hoping to live up to his ‘Claylor’ nickname with a strong first-round showing against Federico Coria.

An all-Australian showdown between Alexei Popyrin and Thanasi Kokkinakis also promises fireworks, before Holger Rune starts his campaign against Dan Evans, the latest remaining Great British player in the men’s draw.

This all feels like the precursor to Novak Djokovic‘s return to Roland Garros though, as he seeks to defend his crown, starting against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Alize Cornet will go into her final French Open seeking to upset seventh seed Qinwen Zheng.

Arguably the pick of the matches though sees Katie Boulter face Paula Badosa, both of whom have enjoyed a mixed 2024 laden with good spells and disappointing losses.

Then, Aryna Sabalenka’s campaign gets underway against teenager Erika Andreeva.s
