Mirra Andreeva survived a scare against Clara Tauson to set up an Italian Open quarter-final meeting with Coco Gauff.
Andreeva has followed in the footsteps of Serena Williams at the Italian Open, the latest WTA 1000 event in the calendar.
The Russian, who received a bye in round one, previously beat Emiliana Arango and Linda Noskova before knocking out Tauson.
Andreeva defeated the Danish 22nd seed 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, with the seventh seed now meeting fourth seed Gauff.
Gauff comfortably beat Emma Raducanu in their round of 16 encounter in Rome, overcoming the Briton 6-1, 6-2.

Rennae Stubbs slams Italian Open umpire after Mirra Andreeva controversy
But Andreeva’s victory was certainly not without controversy, with the teen a victim of a bizarre incident against Tauson.
She hit a winner early in the third set, but was forced to replay the point after the court lights turned on mid-rally.

And among those sharing their reaction to the incident was former professional Rennae Stubbs, who couldn’t believe the decision taken by the umpire.
She wrote on X: “This is an umpire I would have LOST MY MIND with… omg. Common sense lady, common sense!”
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva head-to-head record ahead of Italian Open clash
The incident ultimately didn’t impact Andreeva, who went on to comfortably win the set and progress to the next round.
But she now faces a very tricky test against Gauff, who reached the final of the Madrid Open earlier this month.
The American lost to world number one Aryna Sabalenka, but has shown she is a real threat on the clay courts.
She is chasing her first WTA title of the season in Rome, with Andreeva targeting a third after winning in Dubai and Indian Wells.
But history is very much on the side of Gauff when it comes to their head-to-head record, with the American having won all three of their previous meetings.
That includes a victory at the Madrid Open late last month, where the Russian was beaten 7-5, 6-1 at the quarter-final stage.
