Mirra Andreeva has continued her superb season at the Italian Open, where she is now into the quarter-finals.

Andreeva wants to improve on grass courts, but her current focus is on the clay courts of the Italian Open.

She is playing both singles and doubles at the tournament in Rome, with Andreeva having just knocked out Clara Tauson in the former.

The Russian is the seventh seed at the WTA 1000 event, and has also beaten Emiliana Arango and Linda Noskova.

Receiving a bye in round one of the Italian Open, world number seven Andreeva now takes on Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals.

And the 18-year-old should be full of confidence ahead of her clash with the fourth seed, having just achieved a superb career feat.

As per OptaAce, Andreeva is the youngest player to reach a fourth Tier I/WTA-1000 quarter-final of the season since Serena Williams in 1999.

She followed that title up with victories at Dubai and Indian Wells this time around, with final wins over Tauson and Aryna Sabalenka respectively.

Andreeva also managed to reach a career-high ranking of sixth in the world earlier this season, with another rise on the cards should she continue her superb run in Italy this week.

She held a 24-6 win-loss record from her 30 matches this season heading into the tournament, with three more wins now added.

And there is also doubles success to target, with Andreeva remarkably also beating Tauson and Noskova in that event alongside Diana Shnaider to secure a last 16 spot.
